Comparison of LED Lighting technology and Compact Fluorescent light bulbs light bulbs

Compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) are created by taking a regular fluorescent tube and turning it into a packed design that accomodates easily into commonplace incandescent installations. Far cry from ordinary fluorescent lights, however, compact fluorescent lights do not flicker. In addition, CFLs produce the same, if not better, quality light as common incandescent bulbs. This means you get brighter, sharper light for much less energy.
CFLs also last much longer than incandescent lights, meaning you won’t need to replace them as often as common bulbs. In general, for each ten incandescent light bulbs you change, you would only ought to replace 1 CFL. Not only does this save money, it also reduces the labor to replace the lights.
There are some cons for CFL technology too. Like plain fluorescent lights, CFLs incorporate considerable amount of mercury. This is a very toxic material if leaked or thrown away.
While Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) have been existed for many years in domestic appliances, computers and clocks, they’ve only in recent past gained popularity as energy-efficient alternatives to incandescent bulbs.
Light emitting diodes are mini lights generated by moving electrons in a semiconductor. There is no burning gas or filaments so LEDs are more durable and produce little to no heat. Their small size also makes LEDs very unyielding to weather and can even be waterproofed for more drastic surrounding.
A single LED is relatively small, but improvements in technology have allowed for the composite of lots of LEDs together to construct consumer products ranging from strong flashlights to Christmas lights and lamps. Large lots of LEDs have been used to replace traffic lights and brake lights in cars. Since they are purposed to extend for many years, these unique lights pretty much never need to be replaced and can withstand more extreme conditions than ordinary bulbs.
Just like compact fluorescent lights, LEDs are also unbelieveably energy efficient and consume only a fraction of the energy needed to run a single incandescent bulb. In fact, LEDs use 1/50 of the energy of a plain bulb and halt 10 times longer than their CFL replacements. A typical LED bulb can last up to 15 years without needing to be replaced! They are not as flexible in regular light fixtures, however, and are commonly more expensive than compact fluorescents. Price is the biggest impediment for this technology to be widely accepted. An everyday 60W incandescent light bulb cost less than $1, a 13W CFL that replaces 60W incandescent light bulb cost around $3 and a 6W LED light bulb that replaces 60W incandescent light bulb usually cost more than $50(under $35 at our website). Taking into account the very long lifespan and the high efficiency, LED lights are becoming more and more accepted nowadays.
