Unsurprisingly, the North Carolina beach bum broke up with Andrew, her former beau and father of baby Jace. Surprisingly, Andrew is back to modeling — in China apparently — and, thankfully, paying child support. Otherwise, little else had changed in Jenelle’s world. She was still making partying as much of a priority as parenting, and you better believe her mom, Barbara, had an opinion about that. Jenelle tried to prove (weakly) that she was a good mom, but nights out dancing (it was Saturday, duh!) weren’t the best way to back that up.
The mother-daughter battle continued to percolate: Jenelle left the air conditioner on, Barbara picked out clothes for Jace much to Jenelle’s dismay, and, as a precursor to the battle royale, Barbara took the Internet modem from a Web-happy Jenelle, who stole it back and shoved Barbara in the process. (Seriously, their back-and-forth fighting makes my head spin.)

This reality show will be scheduled on the 18th day of January 2011 at precisely 10:00 o’clock in the evening on your favourite channel the MTV Channel. It will surely make your night complete.

Well, as with all matters of taste and culture, these things eventually cycle around, and here now is MTV back in the cartoon business. he show is called “Skins,” and it’s so expertly animated, you swear it’s a live-action series, with actors and cameras and street scenes and so forth.

OK, it actually does have actors and cameras, but make no mistake: This is a cartoon, an abstraction of real life, a complete and utter fantasy – the kind of fantasy that used to be grist for Dr. Freud’s mill.So what is “Skins”? It’s an American adaptation of a show by the same name you may have already seen on BBC America. It is MTV’s first major foray back into the scripted television business after living off reality shows for a decade.

They keep company with an ethnically diverse crowd of party hounds, including a crazy girl who takes pills so often she can sleep off a hangover, a mouth-breathing porn addict who is the show’s token virgin and a Muslim boy who is a very, very bad Muslim.

Some of this is played for laughs, some of it is merely preposterous. And yet, there is also some genuinely heartfelt dialogue in “Skins,” as when the cast lesbian Tea (Sofia Black D’Elia), in a moment of despair, uses her senile grandmother as a sounding board.

Bryan Elsley, who created “Skins” with his son Jamie Brittain, is writing the American version with help from “real teens” (so says MTV), and these moments of authenticity are all that separate the unreal teens of this show from the adults, who are mostly caricatures of adults.

I doubt that you would sit through a three-minute video by 3D Friends, but I guarantee that the few bars of his pitch-perfect single “Lina Magic” (which MTV picked as the show’s theme after a contest among undiscovered musicians) will result in a huge spike in downloads for the Austin, Texas-based artist.

The second episode does a fine job of introducing the current MTV audience to the groove of Northern soul, a subgenre of the Motown era that older music collectors have long cherished.

A Reality TV-Show Teen Mom 2 is a spin-off of the MTV documentary series ’16 and Pregnant’. The show follows the stories of four girls from the second season of ’16 and Pregnant’ and documents the challenges of their first years of motherhood.
